Tioga Pass is the highest highway pass in California. It is closed from the first good snow to at least May. It reopened about a week ago. I came home from Carson City that way once in June and it was cold and wet. The CX was running rough, as it wasn’t jetted for 9900+ feet of elevation.
This sign is on the way into Liberty. In the previous years, the husband’s name was on top. A sharp eyed Marie noticed the top name was blacked out. Hmmmm, no more husband. I said there should be a “help wanted” sign instead of leaving it blank. I know, I can be such an ass.
After shooting we both were hungry and Clay’s Curbside Grill was next on the list. Of course we stopped at QT for sodas, then onto Clay’s. We pulled up and noticed no Adam and no Jennifer. Hmmmm. We parked, got out and noticed the signage had changed to NKC Dog. Well hell, we were already here, let’s give it a try. We ordered and chatted up the crew. We both ordered Bacon Cheese Dogs, and they were delicious. It was tempting to order another one, but I resisted. Charlie however, did not resist and he ordered a Philly Cheesesteak. Charlie said it was good, but not worth a special trip. He likes crispy bacon on his dogs and burgers and they served chewy bacon instead, which I prefer. So, I don’t think there will be a return visit for Charlie, but i may take Marie here so she can try it too.
Charlie and CJ came out last night, and after he took my Godson to school and ran a few errands, and Marie and I ate breakfast, we headed out to the shooting range. One hour was only $3, a hell of a deal. Here’s a shot of Charlie hitting center mass. He is the firearms instructor for his department and he gave me a few pointers. I still can’t hit the broad side of a barn, but I enjoy shooting. We had stopped at Walmart and I bought almost $200 worth of .45 and .38 ammo. While working on the trailer, Marie had found my box of .380 ammo, so I brought out all three pistols. It was an enjoyable way to spend an hour, even though I suck at shooting.
The main highway was called “El Camino Sierra.” Now it is US-395.
